Located in a growth hot spot,
Wellington Chase offers
semi-custom floor plans for families

Orleans Homebuilders offers 17 floor
plans in Wellington Chase off N.C. 73.
New homes in the Wellington Chase neighborhood on N.C. 73 in Concord are selling fast. The first phase of the Orleans Homebuilders community has nearly sold out, according to onsite manager Jami Prince.

Open for sales since last July, the neighborhood opened its two model

homes in the fall and reported some 25 homes sold by year’s end. Wellington Chase’s second phase will open in the late spring
or early summer. The Orleans neighborhood is similar to Heatherstone in Harrisburg, said Prince.

With homes ranging in size from 2,500 square feet to nearly 4,000 square feet with five bedrooms, Wellington Chase features two villages: The Village of Kingston (offering nine floor plans) and The Village of Buckingham (offering eight floor plans). Upon completion, the neighborhood will comprise 300 homes — some with a finished third-floor attic and a basement.

Children attend the new Odell Elementary School, as well as Harris Road Middle School and Northwest Cabarrus High School. Community amenities, which will open for the season in 2009, will include a junior Olympic-size swimming pool and a “Spray Ground” for children, locker rooms, a clubhouse with a fireplace, a playground, tennis courts and a sports court. Wellington Chase features sidewalks on both sides of the street.

Structural options abound

“We’re paying extensive attention to the streetscape,” said Prince. “When you drive through Wellington Chase, you don’t see the backs of houses.” She also noted Orleans Homebuilders’ look-alike home restriction. “You can’t build the same floor plan with the same elevation and brick exterior next door, across the street or diagonally,” she added.

The Village of Kingston features home sites from one-quarter to
one-half acre, with homes starting at 2,500 square feet and priced starting in the $270s. Homes, which are built on a slab, have a front-entry garage. The Solebury Grand model is featured in the community’s Kingston Village and features an optional playroom and a morning room off the gourmet kitchen.
Another popular Kingston plan is

the Bainbridge II, which starts at $295,990. “This is a great plan,” said Prince. “It has five bedrooms upstairs and the laundry room up. There’s the option of adding a sixth bedroom.”

Also popular is the Southampton floor plan, which starts at $284,990 and features a courtyard driveway. This plan has an enormous laundry room and offers the option for a prince or princess suite over the garage — perfect for a teenager, said Prince.
The Village of Buckingham features home sites from one-third to one-half acre, with homes starting at 3,150 square feet and priced starting in the $340s. Homes, which are built on a crawl space, have a side-entry garage. The Bradford Grand II model, which starts at 3,677 square feet and is priced starting at $361,990, has two staircases and boasts a center circular staircase in the foyer. It also features a morning room off the kitchen, a large walk-in pantry and an oversized laundry/mud room. With seven elevation options, this plan offers many structural options, including a third floor with a full bath.

The Brookfield II plan also is popular in the Village of Buckingham. It starts at 3,217 square feet and is priced starting at $341,990.

Various elevations, exteriors

“Orleans is a semi-custom builder,” said Prince. “We have tons of options. The ability to add a guest suite on the first floor is very popular.” On the builder’s Web site (www.orleanshomes.com), prospective buyers can customize a floor plan — perhaps add a morning room or guest suite on the first floor or a playroom on the second floor. A three-car garage also is optional.
Orleans offers many standard interior features, including nine-foot ceilings on the first floor and smooth ceilings throughout, chair rail and picture frame moldings, 42-inch kitchen cabinets, ceramic tile, a finished garage and pre-wiring for a security
system. Architectural styles of the homes are Craftsman, Farmhouse and Georgian, and homebuyers may choose from brick, stone or vinyl siding exteriors. Front yards are sodded.

Orleans Homebuilders was founded in 1918, and today, more than 85,000 homes later, the company offers homes in Charlotte, Greensboro and Raleigh/Durham, as well as Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Illinois and Florida. Orleans is ranked seventh on Forbes magazine’s “200 Best Small Companies” list and is ranked the 14th largest public builder in the country by Big Builder Magazine.
