Production
software
We are a MacIntosh based publication. We currently work with the following software and can accept their file formats:
• InDesign
• QuarkXpress 6
• Photoshop
• Illustrator
• Adobe Acrobat 5
(If you work with Pagemaker, please save your files as placeable EPS format. Please include all fonts. Microsoft Word or Publisher ads are not accepted.)

We currently accept the following media for transfer of digital ads:

All electronic photos must be in:
• TIFF, JPEG or EPS format
e-mail
JPEGs and PDFs are accepted via email. When sending JPEGs, please use medium compression.
You may email camera ready ads, artwork and meterials to http://addesk.charlotteobserver.com.
When sending in a photo, please name it as self explanatory as possible. For example, if it is a mug, use the last name. For photos of homes, please use the MLS number whenever possible. You will receive a confirmation that your email was received. We do not accept photos placed inside a Microsoft Word file.
specs
Our magazine is printed on 50 lb. coated text. Here are suggested specs for basic production.
• 150 lpi (scan all images at 300 dpi)
• Dot gain of 20%
• Scan photos/art at actual size needed in your ad (enlarging a scan will result in rough output)
• Please provide a printed hard copy of your ad so that we may identify any problem areas before printing.
• Please include all fonts (don’t forget the ones in embedded eps files), support graphics files (don’t forget the
ones in embedded eps files) on your disk. We cannot print your files without them!
• A more detailed spec sheet for Photoshop settings/toning is available upon request.
cover specs
Our cover is printed on 100# coated cover stock. Here are suggested specs for basic production.
• 150 lpi (scan all images at 300 dpi)
• Dot gain of 25%
• All other specs are the same as above.
